Mission of WCG
To empower people to grow their own food, promote environmental stewardship, and create community connections through gardening in Watertown.
Leadership
Watertown Community Gardens is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization guided by a volunteer leadership team committed to equitable access to gardening, environmental stewardship, and community connection.
The Board of Directors provides strategic guidance and oversight for WCG. Board members help set organizational priorities, steward financial and community resources, and support the long-term sustainability of WCG. As a volunteer-led board, we work collaboratively to advance the organization’s mission and ensure the gardens remain welcoming, inclusive, and responsive to community needs.

Committees
Our committees typically have bi-monthly or monthly meetings, which are held over Zoom or in a public space. WCG relies on volunteers for its continued success, and joining a committee is a great way to contribute to our mission!

Pollinator Pathways Committee
Promotes gardening methods to increase biodiversity of pollinators and other wildlife; educates about and advocates for native bees, Monarch butterflies, and other pollinators; coordinates stewardship of public green spaces
Food Committee
Engages community members in growing and preparing their own food; promotes and facilitates the sharing of produce to address food insecurity in Watertown; encourages and educates about sustainable, organic growing practices
Communications and Outreach Committee
Builds connections with our community by hosting events, coordinating outreach efforts, and overseeing WCG’s communications (including website, newsletter, and social media platforms)
Community Garden Steering Committees
Oversees and manages the operations of WCG's community gardens. Each community garden has its own steering committee made up of gardeners who hold plots at that location.

Diversity
We believe that by bringing the community together to grow food and share the bounty of the garden we can bridge cultural differences, promote diversity, teach peace and build a strong community.
Community Participation, Leadership and Impact
We value partnership and collaboration with community organizations, youth and families and strive to be a change agent within our community. By building leadership within our organization and the community we are an incubator for social action. Community gardening is a catalyst for neighborhood and community development.
Healthy Food for All
We believe in promoting access to healthy food and we commit our resources to finding ways to help people grow food for themselves, share with others and alleviate food insecurity.
Environmental Stewardship
We value sustainable growing practices and careful use of resources as essential to our responsible participation in the restoration, preservation of our environment and beautifying our local neighborhoods.
Education and Sharing Knowledge
We believe that shared knowledge through growing food and fostering healthy eating enriches our understanding of the world around us. By introducing people to gardening, we promote healthy communities as well as creating opportunities for recreation and exercise.
Interdependence Between Humans and the Earth
We believe in the importance of encouraging the human connection to each other and the earth through growing and sharing of food, and strive to provide opportunities for children and youth to experience nature.
